Blog Assignment #10

http://morgbayda.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/an-open-letter-to-educators/

The views Morgan Bayda about her college experience was very interesting to say the least. I can understand her views on how long classes are and how some teachers methods to teach their students. I have had the same experience with a certain class encourages me to think way outside the normal way of thinking.

http://pencilintegration.blogspot.com/2010/07/dont-let-them-take-pencils-home.html

In this post Tom Johnson talks about how a simple supply such as a pencil used in school has been marketed as a toy. Mr. Johnson confronted the problem in his class and made it were he used pencils to help students learn skill in certain subjects.

http://techliterateteacher.blogspot.com/2010/03/two-questions-that-can-change-your-life.html

The two questions in the video were "What's my sentence" and "was I better today than yesterday". The two questions will really help me stay motivated since the field of teaching that I am going in to is physical education. The second question will let me know if I am improving and need to work harder. Because my sentence is" My goal is to improve dietary habits and physical health."

Skype Interview

Additional Assignment #3

Is the way of seeing and thinking about education needs to be change. No, nothing I like all the areas he covered. Pretty close to what is happening in school. Go into the area of school that I will be teaching with an open mind. I really enjoy how they did the images to demonstrate what he was talking about and i would most likely be the sound effects person.

Blog Assignment #8

Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2
http://techliterateteacher.blogspot.com/2009/07/dr-richard-e-miller-discusses-writing.html
I Like the points he did about educators be creative and imaginative in the way we teach are students.
At this point I do not believe I can do a multimedia yet but I am learning more as I watch this video. I like how he keeps going to different areas that you can do multimedia on.
Yes, I believe that the student that I will be teaching will be able to use multimedia for any subject they wanted to use it for.

The Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies
Some of the ideas I was thinking about do was in the area of physical education. I would like to create two videos. One showing the effects of having a poor diet, no activity, and no commitment to change theirs. Which would let them see all the health problems associated with the three points I said. The other movie would be about a student have a good diet, being active, and committed to staying healthy and show how that helps you when you are older.
In the first video created by a student. The message was showing how you can not have a care free attitude in doing school, work, and any social event you do. You have to be committed to finishing the course the first time. Do not let yourself get frustrated just ask for help or search for ways to help you get the work done and the videos were real good.

Michael Staton, Why Smartboards Are A Dumb Initiative
Bill Ferriter, Why I Hate Interactive Whiteboards
Teachers Love SMART Boards - http://smartboards.typepad.com/
Mr P's SMART Board - http://mr-p-iwb.blogspot.com/

I understand the view points of Michael Staton and Bill Ferriter on how smart boards can be expensive and not useful in certain class subjects. But I like the advantages that smart boards have I like the Teachers Love SMART Boards were she set it up for Halloween. Letting you see any you want to know and come up with what you to dress up as. I think smart boards can help keep creativity in the schools for teachers and students.

Blog Assignment #7

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture

Well some of the points I came away with from Mr. Pausch lecture. Here are four points I will talk about.
One of the points he had was not complaining, working hard, and finding the best in everybody. He was saying do that in everything you do in your work area. In your family life with your wife, children, and friends.
Another point he had was that you keep your child hood imagination in your think for creating new ways to improve. I like how he said, "Bring something to the table. Because if your not saying anything then people might think you are giving up." Then you have to be a leader and have good teamwork with the people around you.
The third point was about in life their are brick walls that stop people who don't have dedication to get through hard times. While it motivates other people to to do better because they "know they can do better."
The last point was about "loyalty is a two way street." Were you never give up on anybody and do the right thing.
Overall I did get one of the two head fakes that he ask everybody about at the end. An I liked his approach to living the last few months he had to live.

Additional Assignment #2

Very interesting how he thinks what could change if we took his approach. I believe they teach themselves to a degree. Yes, they can their was evidence in the video that showed the kids teaching themselves. I don't think their is any particular conditions you have to have to learn. Learning is different for everyone. It gives the kids opportunity to have compositions between one another to see who learns a skill quicker. It challenges them to search for ways to get through the problem. By making it fun and interesting but also finding something they like to learn about. By looking at it is going to make me better in a certain area that will help me later in life. Yes they can. Yes I teach myself somethings through practice and observations. A teacher can answer the questions students have and help them understand something they can't find an answer to on the internet. His idea of letting kids learning on their own. Are teachers becoming obsolete?
